Administrator. Scenario 12 of 13. Workload

One more thing

You already have a full week: month-end reports, two inductions to organise and the usual inbox. On Tuesday your manager says, "Could you also take on the conference bookings? It shouldn't take long."

You know it will take at least a day, and you do not have one.

What is the best call?
Not the best call

Saying yes to everything feels safe and is not. Something will be late or rushed, and your manager will not know why. They can only help you plan if they know how full your week is.

Good call

This is not refusing. You are showing your manager the trade-off and letting them choose, which is their job. Most managers do not have a clear picture of your week until you give them one.

Could be better

It is honest, and better than a yes you cannot keep. But a flat no gives your manager nothing to work with and can sound unwilling. Show what is on your list and ask what should give way.

Not the best call

Bookings done in a rush are where expensive mistakes happen: wrong dates, wrong names, no refunds. Your manager would rather hear about the workload now than about a conference booking gone wrong.

The principle

You are allowed to have a limit. Do not say a flat yes or a flat no. Show what is on your plate and ask what should come first.
